Pamela Joan Rogers (Turner) (born July 1, 1977), a former elementary school physical education teacher and coach in McMinnville, Tennessee, gained notoriety for her sexual relationship with a 13-year-old boy, one of her students in Centertown Elementary School. To avoid the possibility of a lengthy prison sentence, she pleaded no contest to 4 counts of sexual battery by an authority figure.

Criminal prosecution

Pamela Rogers faced 15 counts of sexual battery by an authority figure and 13 counts of statutory rape on February 4 2005. The charges stemmed from her 3-month relationship with a teenage boy. Following her arrest, she posted bail of $50,000.

During the three-month relationship, Rogers and the teen performed both vaginal sex and oral sex more than a dozen times, in the school, in her house, and in the teen's home. Rogers follows Mary Kay LeTourneau and Debra Lafave as female teachers being lovers of their boy students.

Rogers, a friend of the teen's family, plead no contest to 4 charges of sexual battery by an authority figure on August 12 2005, as part of a deal with the prosecution.

Her sentence was 270 days (about 9 months) in the Warren County jail in Tennessee. During an 8-year suspended sentence, she must also serve a term of 7 years and 3 months of probation, register as a sex offender, and surrender her teaching certificate for life.

The sentence not only prohibits her from profiting from the case (including books and movies), but also bars her from granting interviews for 8 years.

When originally charged with 15 counts of sexual battery by an authority figure and 13 counts of statutory rape, Turner pleaded not guilty.

Rogers was arrested again on April 24, 2006 on charges that she had sent text messages, nude photos, and sex videos of herself to the same boy while using her father's cellphone. The judge ordered her to remain in jail until her next court hearing, held on July 14, 2006. One of the [videos] surfaced on the internet, on BadJocks.com and showed Rogers - clad only in black underwear and white stockings - dancing provocatively.

On July 14, 2006 Rogers was sentenced to 7 years in prison for violating her probation by sending explicit videos to her former victim and maintaining contact with him via online blogs. Although Rogers asked for mercy and apologized to her family and the teen's family saying tearfully to the judge, "I have humiliated myself. What I did was wrong, I am willing to do anything to rehabilitate myself." She asked for local incarceration with therapy. Circuit Judge Bart Stanley denied her request saying, "You have done everything except show this court that you wanted to rehabilitate yourself." He revoked Rogers' probation and ordered her to serve the rest of a seven-year prison sentence at the Tennesee State Prison for Women. Officers led the handcuffed and shackeled Rogers away. ."

Critics

It should be noted that some do not consider the crime to be rape in a strictly literal sense of the word. Sacramento, California talk show hosts, Rob, Arnie & Dawn, frequently feature segments known as "Monster Teachers." They and many listeners have pointed out that a teenage boy would willingly have sexual intercourse with an adult woman thereby discounting the literal definition of rape, and that the stigma of adult-child relations is the main reason for the ruling. Rob and Arnie frequently refer to Turner's actions as "ushering a child into manhood" and point out that women who have sex with teenagers are only monsters if they are not attractive. Conversely, Dawn points out that Turner has raped the boy and "stolen his innocence."

However, none of this is relevant to the legal definition of statutory rape, which is predicated on the inherent inability of a person below the age of consent - whether male or female - to rationally consent to a sexual experience.

Many argue that talk show hosts such as these clearly illustrate the double-standard that has often been applied to teenage boys and their "right" to have sex with any female.

Others point out that they fail to mention that if the teacher had been a grown man, with the student being a 13 year-old girl, then the teacher would have been condemned as a pedophile, and the girl would have been seen as a "victim", or perhaps even "promiscuous".

Personal life

In 1997, she was Ms. Monday Nitro in World Championship Wrestling at Spring Break festivities.

She married Christopher Turner, a High School basketball coach, in 2003. He filed for divorce in January 2005, around the time of her indictment. Separated since 2004, the couple was already experiencing marital difficulties when Pamela's legal troubles came to light. A friend reportedly advised Chris Turner not to marry Pamela, but to no avail.
