Patrick McLoughlin

Patrick Allen McLoughlin (born 30 November 1957, Staffordshire) is a British politician. He is a Conservative Member of Parliament, having represented Derbyshire West since 1986.

McLoughlin worked as a miner. A member of the National Union of Mineworkers, he became an industrial representative for the National Coal Board's Western Area Marketing Department. He was a councillor on Cannock Chase District Council from 1980 to 1987 and was elected to Staffordshire County Council in 1981.

McLoughlin contested Wolverhampton South East at the 1983 General Election before winning his seat in a by-election. He served as a government and opposition whip under John Major and later as Oppostition Deputy Chief Whip until he was appointed Opposition Chief Whip by David Cameron, the newly elected Conservative Leader, on 6 December 2005. In June 2005, he was elevated to the Privy Council.

He is married and has a son and a daughter.
