Paul Deussen (IPA: [paʊl doʏsən]) (January 7, 1845, Oberdreis—July 6, 1919, Kiel) was a German Orientalist and Sanskrit scholar. He was influenced by Arthur Schopenhauer. He was also a friend of Friedrich Nietzsche and Swami Vivekananda.

In 1911, Paul Deussen founded the Schopenhauer Society (Schopenhauer-Gesellschaft). He was the first editor, in 1912, of the scholarly journal Schopenhauer Yearbook (Schopenhauer-Jahrbuch). Deussen served in this position until his death.

The system of Vedanta, as founded on the Upanishads and Vedanta Sutras and accompanied by Shankara's commentary on them—equal in rank to Plato and Kant—is one of the most valuable products of the genius of mankind in his researches of the eternal truth.
