Paul Edinger

Encyclopedia : P : PA : PAU : Paul Edinger

Paul Edinger (born January 17, 1978 in Frankfort, Michigan; raised in Lakeland, Florida) is a free agent National Football League kicker. Previously Edinger played for the Chicago Bears and Minnesota Vikings. He is known for his ability to kick with great accuracy from a long distance and for the high percentage of field goal attempts which are successful. In his six NFL seasons (2000-05), he has never missed a PAT kick. His style is notable in that before the snap he faces backwards in the direction of the opposite side of the field and as the ball is snapped he runs in a circular pattern toward the ball. He currently holds the Viking's record for the longest field goal kicked: a kick of 56 yards which also happens to be his career long. On October 23, 2005 Edinger kicked the 56 yard game winner against the Green Bay Packers at the Metrodome at home.
