Peel Green Is an area of the town of Eccles in Greater Manchester, England. It lies at the western end of Eccles. It is split into two by the M60 motorway, whichs run north-south through the centre of it.
Up until the 1980's there was a great deal of heavy industry in Peel Green, with Gardeners Engine makers on Hardy Street and a large industrial unit on Clifford Street. These are both now closed.
With the loss of the industrial base, Peel Green is seeking new types of investment to aid in renewal of the area. New properties have been built though, the latest addition being on Gorton Street at the end of 2004.
The Peel Green area also houses much of (along with Westwood Park in Winton) the Eccles areas council and housing association stock, with the medium sized Brookhouse estate at the western end of Peel Green, and many council homes in the Haddon road and Higher Croft area in the centre of Peel Green.
Over the recent years, Peel Green has succumbed to social depravation in particularly the Brookhouse estate which seen curfews imposed on under-16's, a large police presence and a large police security camera being erected outside the local shops on Brookhouse avenue at the end of 2003. Crime in the area is higher than the national average and there is also a higher than average rate of drug abuse.
There are a few open spaces, including Godfrey Ermen Recreation Grounds (known officially as Patricroft Rec, but not actually in Patricroft) and large playing fields between schofield Road and the M60 motorway.
Peel Green is also home to the Eccles Rugby Club.
Barton Hall Cricket Club formerly played in Peel Green.
