Peking Union Medical College (中国协和医科大学) is among the most selective medical colleges in the People's Republic of China and internationally renown. It was founded by China Medical Board of the Rockefeller Foundation in 1917 and was modeled after Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine following the recommendations of the Flexner Report which set the foundation of modern Medical Education in the United States.
The curriculum requires 8 years of study, including 3 years of pre-medical instructions at Peking University. The medical education employs Peking Union Medical College Hospital which is widely believed in China as one of the most prestigious medical institutions. Many political and social elites seek medical treatment at the PUMC Hospital.
PUMC has produced a cadre of leaders in Medicine and Surgery.
