Pelagonia

Encyclopedia : P : PE : PEL : Pelagonia

Pelagonia was an ancient region of Europe later incorporated into Macedon. It was roughly bounded by Dardania to the north, Illyria to the west, Paionia to the east, and Lynkestis to the south. The region was inhabited by Pelagones, Paionians and Illyrians, and later settled by Macedonians. Strabo (7.327) calls Pelagonia Tripolitis, referring to the three major cities of ancient Pelagonia.

Today Pelagonia is a valley between the Republic of Macedonia and Greece.
