Penicillium notatum, also known as Penicillium chrysogenum, is a mold commonly found in most homes and a basis of Beta-lactam antibiotics. Penicillium is known as the blue-green mould on bread, fruits, and nuts. It is also used for the production of green and blue mould cheese.

Penicillium grows at its peak during the spring and winter, but the mould has no seasonal variation. It is a well-known group of brushed-shaped microorganisms belonging to the fungimycin family, and has no known sexual state. Penicillium is heterotrophic.
