Pennywell

Pennywell is one of the UK's largest post-war social housing developments, and is situated in the west of Sunderland, Tyne and Wear, North East England.

Pennywell is one of the poorest areas of the city and has a high crime rate. Despite recent efforts from Sunderland Housing Group to redevelop areas, many houses have been demolished or are either boarded-up or damaged by fire.

An industrial area on the edge of the suburb has a Magna Kansei plant and the site of the Sunderland Echo building.
