The People's Anthem is both the name of the competition held by Virgin Radio featured on The Christian O'Connell Breakfast Show to find an alternative to the 'official' World Cup song by Embrace, "World at your Feet", and the name of the winning song itself. The winning song was "Hurry Up England" by Jimmy Pursey of Sham 69 fame, an adaptation of the Sham 69 hit, "Hurry Up Harry". The song is peformed by Sham 69 and The Special Assembly, features Graham Coxon and was produced by Stephen Street. A video to the song was recorded on 1st May, and features listeners invited to parcipitate in the recording.
Some view it as a successor to the Three Lions song, and the odds of it reaching number 1 in the UK singles chart were slashed from 20-1 to 2-1 on the day it was first unveiled. The song is due to be released on 12th June.
