He transforms into a microscope (which also functions as a telescope). The toy version of Perceptor actually contained a magnifying lens and could be used as a small, low-powered microscope.

(From Dreamwave's More Than Meets The Eye Profile Book) Regardless of what's he doing, the main thing Perceptor seeks out of any activity is knowledge. He'll turn anything into a scientific exercise that can help him learn even more about the fascinating universe around him. His tendency to break everything down into dry facts that excite only him often bores his comrades, but they are still fond of the friendly intentions of the dedicated and brilliant scientist. Perceptor's main fault, if it can be called that, is being too focused on his work. He rarely finds time to break away from his diligent studies to take part in social activities with his comrades. For Perceptor, his work is his play.

Perceptor possesses above-average strength, but his most powerful asset is his amazing intelligence. He is one of the most brilliant scientific minds on Cybertron, with a specialty in metallurgy, molecular chemistry, and electrical engineering. In microscope mode he can function as a standard optical magnifier or an electron microscope, with a maximum magnification capacity of 1,000,000 times. His lens can adapt for offensive capabilities, becoming a powerful light cannon that can blast a hole through concrete from over 2,000 miles away. He can use the cannon offensively in both modes, including as a stationary cannon when he's a microscope. In robot mode, he is also armed with a concussion blaster and rocket launcher.

Perceptor's focus on his work makes him absent-minded about all other matters, which can be a liability in combat. His lenses are his weakest point; any damage to them can greatly impede both his research and offensive abilities.

Perceptor made his first appearance in Dinobot Island Part 2 when he assisted Chip Chase at understanding some unusual phenomena occurring in that episode.

His first major role is in Microbots when Megatron acquired the Heart of Cybertron, which was decimating the Autobots. He used his shrinking device to shrink himself, Bumblebee and Brawn, so they could infiltrate Megatron's "body" and disable the Heart of Cybertron, which he later destroyed.

Perceptor made an appearance in 1989, in Transformers: Victory in Japan.

Marvel Comics

Beachcomber, Blaster, Cosmos, Perceptor, Powerglide, Seaspray and Warpath were part of an Autobot team on Cybertron in the Earth year 1986. They battled the Decepticons lead by Straxus over the Space Bridge and the Autobots were stranded on Earth (Transformers #18).

They were then captured by Circuit Breaker and her Rapid Anti-Robot Attack Team, taken to her lab and then disceted (Transformers #21-22).

Circuit Breaker then captured Autobots Air Raid, Fireflight, Silverbolt, Skids, Skydive and Slingshot. Using the parts from all the captured Autobots she created a giant Autobot with herself in control, striking a deal with them that if they would co-operate she would let them go. Circuit Breaker then used them to oppose the Decepticon Battlechargers Runabout and Runamuck who were attacking the Statue of Liberty. After defeating the Decepticons with Circuit Breaker the Autobots were released (Transformers #23).

Perceptor returned in the Devil's Due third series of G.I. Joe vs. The Transformers. Grimlock, Arcee, Bumblebee and Perceptor were sent to Earth to aid G.I. Joe in removing the influence of Cybertonian technology on the planet. When Cobra attached the base, the Autobots helped repel the Cobra Battle Android Trooper armies.

Motto: "Seek your true power."'

(From Dreamwave's More Than Meets The Eye Profile Book) The three Mini-Cons of the Street Action Team - Grindor, High Wire and Sureshock - are some of the most positive beings in the galaxy, trying to better the lives of all those they come in contact with. It is perhaps this overriding decency that binds thre three together and helps them unlock their deeper, hidden abilities. Their combined form, Perceptor, exemplifies each of their best traits: creativity, teamwork, and individuality, respectively. With a purity of purpose that most Cybertronians lack, Perceptor is able to communicate with other beings on an almost telepathic level, bridging all language barriers or boundaries of space. Always striving to help others improve themselves, Perceptor has used these abilities to become something of a lightning rod for gathering Mini-Cons together in the name of good.

Perceptor is still growing into its abilities, but they are already formidable. It can stand up to Decepticons twice its size in battle, but Perceptor's true strength comes from its mysterious mental abilities. Perceptor is capable of communicating mentally with other beings, particularly Mini-Cons at great distances. The full extent of these powers is still unknown, and more seem to be developing as time progresses.

Perceptor has no outstanding physical weaknesses, but Megatron's desire to possess it is a definite disadvantage. Although physically capable when combined, Perceptor's three individual components are much more vulnerable to Decepticon attacks.

Armada Perceptor would be re-released in the Universe line in darker colors packaged alongside Universe Sunstorm and Inferno. His only appearance in the Transformers: Universe storyline was as one of the Decepticons under the command of Reptilion in the Botcon 2004 voice actor play.

2004 Voice actor play plot - Rhinox has built a device to deflect Unicron's attempts to pull victims from other dimensions with his tractor beam. The Autobots deflect two attempts and the victims end up on a frozen planetoid instead of with Unicron. Maximals Rattrap and Silverbolt and the Predacon Waspinator are sent to help the victims, but Reptilion, Thrust, Ruination and Perceptor are sent to get them for Unicron. As a side effect of the device Rhinox built, a vortex opens which sucks in an Autobot shuttle from the past piloted by Bumblebee, Tracks and Cosmos. Thrust attacks the Maximal ship, but they are saved by being transported to the Autobot shuttle. The Autobots and Maximals then go to the planet where they save the victims from the Decepticons. On the planet are two groups of Autobots. One is from the Robots in Disguise story, with Landfill (Walmart recolor), Side Burn (Universe recolor) and Prowl (Universe recolor). The other is from another parallel world with Spychanger Optimus Prime, Ultra Magnus, Prowl and Ironhide. They all fight off the Decepticons. The Autobot shuttle is sent back to its own time.

In late 2005 Energon Perceptor was repackaged for the Transformers: Universe line. The toy was identical to the Energon version. This character has not appeared in any Universe story yet.

Armada Perceptor (now called Cliffjumper in Japan) returned with a completely new mold for Energon.

(From the toy packaging) Perceptor is the combined robot form of the Street Action Mini-Con Team. Although smaller than his Autobot allies, he is an extremely powerful Mini-Con. He has been known to take down some of the toughest Decepticons during battle and has earned the respect and admiration of his teammates. Although Perceptor is a great warrior, he prefers spending time with his human friends learning about earth and its many cultures.

Perceptor loves spending time on Earth with his human friends, particularly the young Kicker. Having spent years with Rad, Carlos and Alexis, Perceptor feels a special bond to them and their planet. He loves the culture of Earth. Humans are all similar, yet so diverse at the same time, much like his own personality. Now that the Mini-Cons are no longer hunted for their power, Perceptor is free to spend his time on Earth with his human friends. He seamlessly combines the qualities of the three Mini-Cons from the Street Action Team; Grindor, High Wire and Sureshock. From Grindor, he inherits creativity and a positive outlook. High Wire's motivation keeps him focused on the task at hand, and teamwork mentality enables Perceptor to integrate the three personalities instead of becoming confused. From Sureshock, he acquires intelligence and the ability to make wise inferences. He helps others improve themselves much the way an Earth psychologist would, with reason and understanding. He helps Autobots battle shortcomings and helps Mini-Cons to see a unified goal of freedom. Anything that Perceptor does, he does with a purity of purpose that is lacking in most creatures. He doesn't fight for the sake of fighting, he fights to rid the universe of oppression. He doesn't talk just to talk, he helps others work through their problems. Although small in stature and peaceful in persona, Perceptor is a skilled warrior. When the members of the Street Action Team wanted newer and faster forms, Perceptor gained a new form as well.

Containing three Mini-Cons, Perceptor is very strong for his size. He has been known to take down Decepticons twice his size with relative ease. He is an expert at using uncommon means to defeat opponents in battle. He possesses mysterious mental abilities, including the ability to communicate with Mini-Cons on a telepathic level.

Perceptor's only real weakness is when he is separated into the three Mini-Cons. Also, fondness of Earth and humans would be considered a weakness by the Decepticons.

Takara Tech Spec: Usually very calm and enjoys living with the humans, but now, at time of war, he releases his power in order to recover the lost peace.

(2006)

Perceptor is a recolor of the Energon toy and does not appear in the TV cartoon series. The three members of the Street Action Team are now part of the Mini-Con 'versus' packs and were sold individually along with a member of the Decepticon Mini-Con Deep Space Team. Although each Mini-Con has a bio on their package; Perceptor, being a combined form, does not. He is described as the most powerful warrior among the Mini-Cons and the only one to defeat their Decepticon rivals.
