Peter Windsor

Encyclopedia : P : PE : PET : Peter Windsor

Peter Windsor (born on April 11, 1952 in England) is a Formula 1 journalist and reporter, and has formerly worked for the Williams and Ferrari Formula 1 teams. Peter Windsor was brought up in Australia.

Currently Peter Windsor carries out on-location reports from Formula 1 venues for SPEED Channel. He is also the moderator for Formula 1's post-qualifying and post-race press conferences. Technically, Windsor isn't really a SPEED employee. He is actually a part of the pool coverage that SPEED relies on for its video coverage, gathering interviews with drivers and other F1 personnel during a race weekend.

In 1985 Windsor became sponsorship manager at Williams. He then worked as general manager at Ferrari, and returned to Williams as team manager in 1991. Windsor's writing has won him five awards, and his previous television work (at least, the bulk of it) has all taken place with networks inside Rupert Murdoch's News Corporation. From 1998 to 2000, Windsor was the on-location reporter for FSN's Formula 1 coverage. He then joined Sky Sports as a pit reporter on their Digital F1 Plus package. He also worked as a pit reporter for the American Broadcasting Company's coverage of the 2002 United States Grand Prix.

With SPEED's recently-announced new deal for the 2006 season, Windsor will now see an increase in his role — SPEED will have a live camera on the pre-race grid, where Windsor will conduct team interviews.

In 1986, shortly before the start of the season, Windsor was in the car with Frank Williams that crashed on its way from the Paul Ricard Circuit in southern France to the Nice airport, leaving Windsor with minor injuries but Williams, who was driving, paralyzed.

Peter Windsor is currently Grand Prix Editor of F1 Racing magazine, for which he writes race reports, feature articles, and 'The Friction Circle' column.
