Ph34r exe

Encyclopedia : P : PH : PH3 : Ph34r exe

ph34r.exe is a Windows based application that is used specifically to remove the built-in firewall implemented by Windows, in order to allow easier (and in some cases faster) network connections and multiplayer game connections through a LAN. The program is particularly used in a situation where the user does not have the access rights to toggle the Windows firewall, therefore ph34r can be used to eliminate this problem completely, without damaging the firewall.

History

The application was first conceived by a group of programming students who attended Onslow College in Wellington, New Zealand, sometime around mid-September 2005. Ph34r started out as a simple batch script by one who is only known by the alias of Vizzini. At the time, the school made the decision to increase tension on the network rights of common students, thereby taking away their laid-back right to toggle options in the Windows Control Panel. This meant that the privilige of toggling the Windows Firewall was taken away, therefore making it impossible for students to play multiplayer games such as Doom, Halo, and Counter-Strike. Ph34r was a very innovative way at getting past the problems with the firewall, and allowed all students to be able to play favorite multiplayer games over the school LAN. Ph34r caught on great popularity among students at Onslow College, especially those in the popular programming class. Ph34r is still used by many Onslow students to this day. Ph34r has now evolved beyond simple source code, and is now a fully functional executable application.

The Developers

There are a total of 3 developers who have worked on ph34r. The names of these developers are unknown, only their codenames. Their codenames are believed to have been their gameplay names.

Vizzini: Creator of concept and original code

V1Ru5: Co-creator and distributor

Count Egavas: Beta-tester and distributor

What's to come

Ph34r is still under development under Vizzini and V1Ru5. More features are planned for the future; being able to turn the firewall on as well, possibly adding other exploits, and a new GUI shell.

Distribution

At the moment, ph34r.exe is only under private distribution. However, it will soon be published to the web among the website owned by Vizzini.
