Phife Dawg

Encyclopedia : P : PH : PHI : Phife Dawg

Phife Dawg (born Malik Taylor on April 20 1970 in Brooklyn, New York) is an African American rapper who was a member of the acclaimed group A Tribe Called Quest with high school classmates Q-Tip, Ali Shaheed Muhammad, and for a short time Jarobi White. He has since started a solo career.

Biography

Besides being apart of the famous group A Tribe Called Quest, Phife has done many appearances on other artist's songs. He was featured on the Fu-Schnickens song La Schmoove (which was a hit), Diamond D's Painz & Strife along with Pete Rock, and Black Sheep's Let the Horns Blow with Al' Tariq and Trugoy and other songs. In 2000 he released his first solo LP "Ventilation: Da LP" to mostly negative reviews, although the criticism centered largely on the productions eclectic and seemingly lazy nature, rather than a dip in Phife Dawg's lyrical quality. Currently Phife is anticipating a second album titled Songs in the Key of Phife.
