Philanthropy (Metal Gear)
Encyclopedia : P : PH : PHI : Philanthropy (Metal Gear)
Philanthrophy is a fictional organization in the Metal Gear series of video games, first appearing in Metal Gear Solid 2.
It was founded by Nastasha Romanenko succeeding the events of Shadow Moses (depicted in ''Metal Gear Solid'. Its members are comprised of Otacon (Hal Emmerich), Solid Snake and Mei Ling. The group's main objective is to prevent Metal Gear-like weapons proliferation.
Otacon provides Solid Snake in the field via codec (nanocommunication) with up to date information and technical support for dilemmas that Snake may encounter. Otacon's support could come in the form of providing hacked information or his expert advice in handling technology. In a sense, Snake is the brawn and Otacon is the brains behind "Philanthropy." Their first known mission is the Tanker incident in 2007 (depicted in ).
