Pinnacle Airlines

Encyclopedia : P : PI : PIN : Pinnacle Airlines

Pinnacle Airlines (IATA: 9E, ICAO: FLG, and Callsign: Flagship) (formerly Express Airlines I) is a regional airline based in Memphis, Tennessee that was founded in 1985. Pinnacle operates all of its flights under the name Northwest Airlink for Northwest Airlines. Pinnacle flies 139 Bombardier Canadair Regional Jet CRJ-200 and CRJ-440 from Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport, Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport, and Memphis International Airport to nearby smaller markets.

In 2004, the company lost one of its aircraft and two pilots in a crash near Jefferson City, Missouri.

The airline is returning some of its fleet in a downsizing measure dictated by its major airline partner Northwest Airlines as that carrier reorganizes under Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings. The aircraft that were returned to Northwest, have been returned to Pinnacle as of June 2006. Furthermore, Northwest, seeking the lowest possible rates, has put out for bids all CRJ flying currently conducted on its behalf by Pinnacle Airlines.
