Plasma Energy Chamber
Encyclopedia : P : PL : PLA : Plasma Energy Chamber
The Plasma Energy Chamber features in the fictional Transformers: Generation One universe.
When the evil multi-faced aliens, the Quintessons, ruled the metal world of Cybertron twelve million years ago, they used the planet as a factory to produce two lines of robots sold for commercial gain - consumer goods and military hardware, who would in time become the Autobots and Decepticons. These robotic constructs were forged by plasma energy in a massive foundry, aptly termed the "Plasma Energy Chamber." Following the rebellion of their creations, the Quintessons fled the planet, and the Plasma Energy Chamber slipped quietly into legend, its existence known only to a select few, including the leaders of the Autobots across the ages, each one charged with guarding the key to the chamber.
The energy contained within the Plasma Energy Chamber is unspeakably powerful - it is pure, raw, destructive plasma energy which seeks out mechanisms that convert matter into energy, and overloads them completely, making it inherently dangerous to all Transformers. However, for an unexplained reason, organic life is immune to its effects.
In the Earth year 2007, Vector Sigma, the mega-computer at the heart of Cybertron, arranged events so that the Decepticon leader, Galvatron, would learn of the existence of the Plasma Energy Chamber and its key. A Decepticon raid on Autobot City saw the key stolen, and when a troop of Autobots attempted to stop the Decepticons from opening the chamber, the brief release of energy blasted their ship clear across the galaxy, where it crash-landed on the planet Nebulos. Optimus Prime subsequently reactivated Vector Sigma with the Matrix and consulted with Alpha Trion within the machine, where he learned that Vector Sigma had orchestrated the entire scenario in order to restore Cybertron's Golden Age. The Decepticons then reacquired the key and opened the chamber, overloading Earth's sun with the released energy and forcing it to go supernova. Before this could occur, however, Spike Witwicky and the inhabitants of Nebulos, immune to the plasma energy which had incapacitated the Transformers, were able to drain off the excess solar energy and re-route it into Vector Sigma, thereby re-energising the entire planet and restoring its golden hue.
Beast Machines
Centuries passed, and the Plasma Energy Chamber once again fell into the realm of legend as Maximal and Predacon arose to replace Autobot and Decepticon.Upon return from a prolonged trip to Earth's prehistoric past, Predacon leader Megatron emerged from the timestream earlier than his captors, the Maximals, arriving on Cybertron some time before they would. Acting quickly, the villain unleashed a virus which froze transformation protocols, and created an army of Vehicon drones which soon overran the planet and captured the populace, extracting their Sparks. When the Maximals then emerged from the timestream at their intended destination point, they were shocked to discover Megatron in control of Cybertron, and had to be reformatted by the mysterious Oracle (in actuality, a shell program surrounding Vector Sigma) to recover from the effects of Megatron's virus. When Megatron gained control of the legendary Key to Vector Sigma, which would allow him to complete his plan to purge all traces of organic life from Cybertron, Optimus Primal was guided by the Oracle to the Plasma Energy Chamber, which would wipe out technology and allow organics to survive. With the threat of each weapon forcing each of the combatants to stay their hands, the stalemate eventually shattered when both the plasma energy and key's energy were unleashed at the same time. The resultant reaction destroyed both Primal and Megatron's bodies, but Megatron found his spark trapped in the leftover organic remnants of his body, Primal was reborn through the power of the Oracle, now realising that the organic was not supposed to supplant the technological, but that a balance between the two was to be attained.
