Definition and Usage

Ploki is a word used for computer programming development testing. It has no meaning other than its significance as a word with no prior meaning. It therefore is easily found in a code search and thus finds its usefulness in spotting test code before it goes live for any developer who uses this word as their "testing word" while working. The word was picked for its prior meaninglessness, its unique order and combination of letters, and for the convenience of the approximity the letters have to one another on the standard English keyboard.

Origins

Ploki first materialized in late 2005 through the New York based technology team at [Money-Media, Inc.] as a standard test word for computer coding. It was discovered that test code periodically would get checked into a live production web application causing embarrassing results on production servers and the need for new roll outs of code. Previously, the developers could not easily grep for test code, and therefore the need for ploki was born. Being a unique set of characters, one can easily do a find on all code to be pushed out. If a ploki ever makes it into a check-in, the developer who committed the sinful code is tortured by being forced to wear the humiliating [ploki hat] for the rest of the day.
