A mild derogatory remark toward a person to describe them as being idiotic or stupid.

Generally, the term plonker is a very light hearted insult. Its not even seen as an insult, it's like calling someone a wally. Its in no way ment maliciously. You call someone a plonker when they say or do something stupid.

A person acting silly, idiotic, stupid, careless, incoherent, dissmissive could be considered a Plonker.

Ettiquette/Customs

In Australia, there is ettiquette associated in using the word plonker. When you call someone a plonker in Australia, it is less offensive than in the UK. Usually use of the word is followed by a laugh. It is used in the same sense as calling someone a silly idiot in Australia.

There are rules to this ettiquette.

When you are called a plonker you can do either two things: i) Respond by calling the 'caller' a plonker or a tosser; or ii) you can accept being called a 'plonker' because maybe you have acted like a plonker.

Under no condition can you get upset with being called a plonker because this just reinforces the fact that you are actually a plonker.
