Pompano

Pompanos are marine fishes in the Trachinotus genus of the Carangidae family. Pompano may also refer to various members of the Carangidae family and Perciforme order. Their appearance is deep bodied and mackerel-like, typically silver colored and toothless with a forked tail and narrow base. There are twenty described species and most are valued as seafood. Some species are considered prize delacacies and game fish.
The Florida pompano, Trachinotus carolinus, reaches about 18 inches and three pounds, while the permit, Trachinotus falcatus reaches about three feet and thirty pounds plus.

- Longfin pompano, Trachinotus goreensis (Cuvier, 1833).

- Plata pompano, Trachinotus marginatus (Gill, 1863).
