Port Columbus International Airport is a public airport located 6 miles (10 km) east of downtown Columbus, Ohio. The airport opened July 8, 1929 on a site originally selected by Charles Lindbergh. Port Columbus is known for displaying a large amount of community artwork.

Facilities

Port Columbus International Airport covers 2,164 acres and has two runways: A large new terminal, in conjunction with the existing terminal, is in the planning stages. It is projected to nearly double the airports gate capacity, and add a new runway, and extend 10L/28R to 10,000 feet. A new 225ft control tower was recently constructed, as well. The first phase of the new terminal will open in 2018.

Three fixed-based operators are on-site: Lane Aviation, Million Air, and Airnet Systems.

In 2001, Executive Jet Aviation (now known as NetJets Inc.) opened up a 200,000 square foot (18,580 m²) operational headquarters at Port Columbus International Airport.

Airlines

Port Columbus International Airport was formerly a hub of America West Airlines, but the company closed the hub in 2003. America West Airlines served Phoenix, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Orlando, Fort Myers, and Washington-Reagan National. America West Express operated by Chautauqua Airlines flew to Baltimore, Philadelphia, Newark, New York-LaGuardia, Hartford, Boston, Toronto, Chicago-Midway, Chicago-O'Hare, Atlanta, and Dallas/Fort Worth. America West eliminated the Columbus hub as result of financial losses at the hub, overall financial losses at the airline, and a weak airline market after September 11, 2001.

The airport may serve as future hub and corporate offices of the new discount carrier, Skybus Airlines. Scheduled launch dates for the airline have been planned for late 2006, pending DOT and FAA approval.

On July 13, 2006, jetBlue announced new service from Columbus to New York/JFK Airport, starting October 3, and Boston, starting October 18.

Port Columbus has 3 concourses containing a total of 39 gates:

Concourse A

Concourse B

Concourse C
