Poshekhonye

Poshekhonye (Russian: ) is a town in Yaroslavl Oblast, Russia, 151 km north-west of Yaroslavl. It stands on the Sogozha River (although now the river valley is flooded by the Rybinsk Reservoir). Population: 6,973 (2002 Census).

It was founded as village Pertoma (Пертома) in the 17th century. In 1777, it was granted town status and renamed Poshekhonye. In 1918, the town was renamed Poshekhonye-Volodarsk (Пошехо́нье-Волода́рск), after V. Volodarsky. It bore that name until 1992, when it regained its old name of Poshekhonye.
