Primary Flight Training

Primary Flight Training is the first practical step in United States Navy pilot flight training pipelines. Primary can be done with the United States Navy at NAS Whiting Field or NAS Corpus Christi flying the T-34C Turbo Mentor, or alternatively with the United States Air Force at either Moody or Vance Air Force Base flying the T-37 Tweet or T-6A Texan II. It is approximately a six month program. Primary is divided into stages of different flight training.
- Ground School (aircraft systems, local course rules, Emergency Procedures)
- Familiarization (Basic transitions, limited maneuvers, spins)
- Basic Instruments (common instrument scans, use during maneuvers)
- Precision Aerobatics (aileron roll, loop, 1/2 Cuban eight, barrel roll, wingover, split-s, immelman)
- Formation (basic section flight, cruise formation flight)
- Radio Instruments
- Night Familiarization
- Visual Navigation
