Prince Albrecht of Prussia

Prince (Friedrich Wilhelm Nikolaus) Albrecht of Prussia (8 May 1837–13 September 1906) was a Prussian general field marshal and, from 1885, regent of the Duchy of Brunswick.
He was born in Berlin, the son of Prince Albrecht of Prussia (1809-1872) and his wife Marianne of the Netherlands (1810-1883), daughter of King William I of the Netherlands. His father was a brother of King Friedrich Wilhelm IV of Prussia and of Kaiser Wilhelm I of Germany.
Albrecht entered the Prussian army in 1847, serving in Schleswig and participating in the battles of Skalitz, Schweinschädel and Königgrätz in 1866 and in the Franco-Prussian War in 1870.
On 9 April 1873 in Berlin he married Marie of Saxe-Altenburg (1854-1898), daughter of Ernst I, Duke of Saxe-Altenburg (1826-1908) and his wife Friederike Amalie Agnes of Anhalt-Dessau (1824-1897).

In 1885 he was chosen as regent for the Duchy of Brunswick, as Otto von Bismarck had prevented Ernst August of Hanover, 3rd Duke of Cumberland, from taking office.Prince Albrecht died at Schloss Kamenz.
