Prince Aly Khan (June 13, 1911 – May 12, 1960), was vice president of the United Nations General Assembly and was the son of Aga Khan III (1877-1957), the head of the Ismaili Muslims, and his second wife, Teresa "Ginetta" Magliano (1888-1926).
Born in Turin, Italy, Aly Khan married the Hon. Joan Yarde Buller (1908-1997), a daughter of the 3rd Baron Churston, who was the divorced wife of Group Capt. Loel Guinness, in Paris on May 18, 1936. She took the Islamic name Tajudowlah, though was generally known as Princess Joan Aly Khan. They had two children, Karim and Amyn. In 1940, Prince Aly joined the French cavalry and served in the Middle East while Joan set up a home for their sons in Kenya and laboured at the Anglo-French Hospital in Cairo. They were divorced in 1949, and she subsequently married the second Viscount Camrose.
Aly Khan then married actress Rita Hayworth in 1949. They had one daughter, Princess Yasmin Aga Khan. Their marriage ended in 1953.
In 1957 his son Karim was named as the 49th Imam of the Ismailis, bypassing Aly, and is known as His Highness Aga Khan IV.
Aly Khan died in Paris, in an automobile accident. His remains were removed to Damascus, Syria, on July 11, 1972.
