Tasmania may be the smallest state in Australia, but it contains no fewer than 495 separate Protected Areas with a total area of 22,034 km² (land area: 22,020 km² – 32.23% of the state’s area). 19 of these are National parks, totalling 14,308 km² (20.94% of the state’s area).
