Encyclopedia : P : PR : PRO : Province of Canterbury

This article is about the ecclesiastical province in England. For the former civil province in New Zealand, see Canterbury, New Zealand.
The Province of Canterbury, also called the Southern Province, is one of two ecclesiastical provinces making up the Church of England. (The other is the Province of York.) It consists of 30 dioceses, covering roughly the southern two-thirds of England, along with the Channel Islands, a few parishes in Wales, and the mainland of Europe.

Before the Church in Wales was disestablished the Province also included all of Wales.

The province's metropolitan bishop is the Archbishop of Canterbury.
