Provincetown Harbor

Provincetown Harbor is located off of the town of Provincetown, Massachusetts.
It was the initial anchoring place of the Pilgrims traveling on the Mayflower in 1620, before they proceeded to Plymouth, Massachusetts. Peregrine White, the first child born to the Pilgrims in New England, was born in Provincetown Harbor.
It is recorded that the Mayflower passengers did not get a friendly reception by the natives. Muskets traded shots for arrows in their first encounter.
Much has changed in nearly four centuries but the reception to newcomers in the harbor can be just as unfriendly these days. The new "natives" present a much colder reception to visitors than other ports do and for this reason Provincetown Harbor continues to earn a reputation as an "unfriendly port" to cruising mariners. There are exceptions, of course, and having an abundance of disposable income to part with freely will go a long way toward making your stay more enjoyable. Cruisers on a budget, beware!
