Q & A (software)

Encyclopedia : Q : QA : QAS : Q & A (software)

Q & A was a dual purpose software system published by Symantec in the 1980's and into the 1990's for MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows. The system provided both a word processor and a database.

The system gained quite a following and is still being found in use today.

Database

The main contribution that Q & A provided was the ability to ask it questions about your data in plain english. In the query window, you could ask "How many boxes of xyz are in the warehouse?" If it was unable to determine what a word meant, it would prompt you to relate that word to your database, by either naming a column or a query to be used to determine the answer.

All of this information would be stored with the database for future queries.
