Qara Bagh

Qara Bagh (Also Kara Bagh or Qarabagh) is a district which is located 50 kilometers north of Kabul, the capital of Afghanistan, and 20 kilometers southeast of Bagram Airbase. This district is the part of Kabul province and is on the route between Kabul and Parwan province.
The residents of this district are mainly Pashtun although some Tajiks also live around this area but are mainly farmers. One of the most notable Pashtun tribe that live in this district is the Kakar tribe who are the owner of most of the land in this area.
During the Russian invasion, the Russian army lost more soldiers in this district than in any other area in the north of Kabul. The Russian army faced so fierce resistance that they were forced to build another route to Parwan province, which was called “The new Route”. Most people in this area were supporters of Mujahideen Leader Gulbudin Hekmatyar. This district produces 9% of the raisins produced in Afghanistan, most of its residents being owners of large vineyards. People of this district are highly influential in Afghan politics, the Army and justice system.
