Quality TeleVision (QTV) is the VHF Television network owned by ZOE Broadcasting Network, Inc. of Bro. Eddie Villanueva and currently operated by GMA Network, Inc.. The station was formally known as ZOE-TV 11. It was renamed QTV-11 after GMA Network, Inc. and ZOE-TV entered to an agreement for leasing the entire TV airtime block of the station. The station was relaunched on November 11, 2005
QTV Channel 11 airs a lineup geared mostly towards women and women’s concerns (similar to the USA's Lifetime).
History
The TV station started way back 1960s. It was established by Manila Broadcasting Company, Inc. naming MBC-11. But in September 21, 1972, MBC-11 forced to close due to Martial Law. After 26 years, Channel 11 was revived with a joint venture of the influential religious groups El Shaddai headed by Bro. Mike Velarde and Jesus Is Lord Movement headed by Bro. Eddie Villanueva in mid 1990s. Conflict of interests started the two groups to contest the full ownership of the company. The Philippine Congress, composed of the Senate and the House of Representatives intervened and awarded to Eddie Villanueva and Jesus Is Lord Movement the right the acquire the frequency held by Channel 11. Villanueva paid Velarde for the stocks and assets held by Delta Broadcasting System (DBS). And Soon Zoe-TV is back on UHF Channel 33 this year. The ZOE-TV station's studios are located the at 22nd flr. Strata 2000 Bldg. F. Ortigas Jr. Road (formerly Emerald Ave.) Ortigas Center, Pasig City.
In the late 1990s, Entertainment Network (Enternet) headed by Benito Araneta and ZOE-TV entered an agreement for TV airtime lease. Enternet leased the morning and afternoon block by airing CNBC Asia. After 2 years of airing, the two parties had disagreements on the signed contact, ZOE-TV stopped airing CNBC Asia and Enternet bolted out and filed a case on Villanueva.
In 2001, ZOE-TV became the first TV station to air the second EDSA Revolution. In 2004, Villanueva resigned as Chairman on ZOE TV to run for Philippine President. After ending in the last position in the election, Villanueva regained the Chairmanship and continued his TV talk shows on ZOE.
GMA-7 decided to expand its business into UHF programming. Citynet UHF 27 was launched in 1995. Poised to compete with ABS-CBN's Studio 23, GMA also catered American TV series. Citynet signed an agreement with NBA for basketball TV rights. In 1998, IBC-13 through Vintage Television, won the NBA TV rights and Citynet decided to change the
their TV airtime block to EMC (Entertainment Music Channel). In 1999, Star TV group signed an agreement with Citynet for the entire TV airtime block and Channel [V] Philippines is launched. Loss of airtime revenues forced GMA to shutdown Citynet 27 in February 2001.
In the first quarter of 2005, Citynet and ZOE-TV entered to an agreement for Citynet leasing the entire TV airtime block of Channel 11 in exchange of an upgrading the facilities of ZOE and a ZOE-TV program on GMA-7 every Monday midnight after its Sunday primetime TV block.
QTV uses the 120kw transmitter tower site located at Tandang Sora, Quezon City. The same transmitter tower used by GMA Channel 7.
Competition
The station is poised to compete with ABS-CBN Studio 23. At its first month, Qtv Channel 11 became the third highest rating television station in Mega Manila beating ABC-5.
However since the station started airing its shows, ABS-CBN Subsidiary SkyCable Gold and Silver failed to provide QTV 11 a channel into its lineup. A Skycable subscriber receive a distored TV signal when changing the TV channel to Channel 11.
Technical Correction
Note: Although many think QTV is a UHF Network, VHF, according to the National Telecommunications Commission of the Philippines, use frequencies from Channels 2-13 and UHF uses Channels 14-69.QTV Stations Nationwide
