Quality start
Encyclopedia : Q : QU : QUA : Quality start
A Quality Start is a relatively new baseball statistic developed by John Lowe. It attempts to gauge the number of "good" starts that a pitcher has. A start is determined to be a quality start if the pitcher pitches at least six innings and allows no more than three earned runs.
The development of the quality start coincides with an increased attempt to reflect an individual's accomplishments in baseball statistics. In the case of the quality start, it removes issues of run support, blown saves and errors, which can skew a pitcher's wins and losses and are often out of the starting pitcher's control. Statistics and studies coming out of this movement are often termed Sabermetrics.
