REVA is an Indian battery electric vehicle intended for use as a City car. More REVA's have been produced than any other electric car[link][1] and sales are increasing.
The Reva is a small 2-door hatchback measuring 2.6 m long (8 ft 6 in), 1.3 m wide (4 ft 3 in) and 1.5 m high (5 ft 11 in). It weighs 745 kg (1,640 lb). The car can accommodate two adults in the front and two children in the rear. The back seats can also fold down to increase cargo space. Maximum passenger and cargo weight is 270 kg (600 lb).
Power comes from eight 6-volt lead acid batteries wired in series to create 48 volts. The batteries are located under the front seats. Power flows through a 400 ampere motor controller to a DC motor rated at 4.8 kW (6.5 hp). The motor can handle up to 13.1 kW (17.5 hp) max.
With a maximum speed of 65 km/h (40 mph) and a maximum range of approximately 80 km (50 miles) [link], the Reva is intended for short city trips, particularly in areas of high congestion. The car may be imported to the USA with a speed limiter for use as a Neighborhood Electric Vehicle (NEV).
The current price in the UK (where it is marketed as the G-Wiz) is approximately £7,700 ($13,600) for the standard model [link].
