The Octape was the best mass produced mobile suit of the Space Revolutionary Army during the 7th Space War. Featuring a wide selection of weapons, great agility and speed, for space, ground and even air combat, it completely outclassed the United Nations Earth’s DT-6800A Daughtress series. The SRA would continue this line of design, a single high performance model equipped for various combat situations with the RMS-019 Crouda many years after the end of the 7th Space War.

Like many other mobile suits, many Octape units survived the mass colony drop and fell into the hands of civilians and Vultures. However, those models, in the hand of the Vultures, generally didn't have proper maintenance and equipment, lacking beam weapons and air mobility. The performance of those units didn't seem any better than the one of RMS-009 Septem's.

In AW 0015, the Octape was still used by the SRA. Wielding powerful beam rifles, they outperformed the mobile suit NRX-009 (NR-001) Valient of the New United Nations Earth, destroying many units of that model. However, they couldn't keep up with the NRX-0013 Gundam Virsago and NRX-0015 Gundam Ashtaron piloted by the Frost Brothers.
