Encyclopedia : R : RR : RRH : RRH Benbecula

RRH Benbecula is a Remote Radar Head operated by the Royal Air Force. It is situated on the island of Benbecula in the Outer Hebrides islands off Scotland. A Remote Radar Head is a radar station which is operated from a remote location, and is therefore typically unmanned. Its radar provides long-range coverage of the North Atlantic approaches to Scotland.

Called RAF Benbecula, the site was a manned radar station, a Control and Reporting Post for UK Air Surveillance, until it was converted to remote operation in the late nineties. Benbecula's parent station is RAF Buchan.
