Rajshahi Collegiate School

Established in 1828, Rajshahi Collegiate School (Bangla: রাজশাহী কলেিজয়েট স্কুল) is the first modern school to be established in Bangladesh.
It is located in the center of Rajshahi, a prominent city in northern Bangladesh. After the British colonial rule started in Bengal in 1757, the British started founding educational centers to create the body of (usually low ranked) officers from the native people. This let to establishment of a number of educational institutions all over India and Bengal in particular. Though a lot of institutions were established in Kolkata and the western part of Bengal, the first school in East Bengal was Rajshahi Collegiate School. Its establishment was followed by those of Jessore Zilla School, Dhaka Collegiate School, Chittagong Collegiate School and Rangpur Zilla School.
