Rampage (Transformers)

Encyclopedia : R : RA : RAM : Rampage (Transformers)

Rampage is the name of 2 different fictional characters in the Transformers universes

Generation One

Rampage was a member of the Predacons made up of Razorclaw, Divebomb, Headstrong, and Tantrum. He can combine with them to form Predaking, becoming the right arm. His alternative form is a tiger.

Beast Wars

Rampage was a Predacon from the Beast Wars Transformers universe. He was a former Maximal that was the test subject of the Maximal elders who sought to duplicate Starscream's immortal spark. They instead ended up with a powerful, psychotic creature who had a resilient, though not quite immortal spark. He had no name, and was referred to as Protoform X.

Although highly intelligent, Rampage is a sadist who loves nothing more than death and destruction. He was recruited by Megatron when the latter removed half of Rampage's spark with an energon blade, which the Predacon leader used to keep him in line by crushing it whenever Rampage disobeyed, and thus tortured the rejected Maximal into becoming a Predacon. It was at this point that Megatron gave Protoform X the name Rampage - according to Megatron, an "honored name", likely an allusion to the Generation 1 character of the same name. Rampage's beast mode is a giant transmetal king-crab, with the additional vehicle mode of a tank.

One of the purposes of the Axalon's journey was to dump his stasis pod in some uninhabited planet. Megatron used the extracted core of Rampage's spark to bring life to the Transmetal 2 version of Dinobot. As a result, Dinobot was given the ability to hurt Rampage with their spark energy, should he step out of line.

Rampage's arch nemesis is Depth Charge. As Protoform X, he attacked and destroyed the Maximal outpost known as Colony Omicron. Depth Charge was the only survivor of Protoform X's attack, and vowed to hunt down the freak. It was Depth Charge who recaptured Protoform X, and he was greatly offended when The Axalon was told to dump X on a barren planet. Depth Charge went off on his own, to find Protoform X and finish the job.

"I'm called Rampage now. A bit obvious, but to the point, don't you think?" - Rampage re-introduces himself to Depth Charge.

The two fought on Earth several times in Beast Wars. In the penultimate episode of Beast Wars, Rampage and Depth Charge battled underwater for the last time. Pinned down by Depth Charge, Rampage laughed maniacally as he let Depth Charge stab him right in the spark with a raw piece of energon. Rampage exploded, and killed Depth Charge in the process.

"Ah, such pain, I must help deepen it." - Rampage

Although Rampage's love for pain, suffering, and fear is well known, many consider Rampage not to be evil (at the level of the Predacons) but to be a simply dark, disturbed, and lost Transformer who was shaped by the Maximals themselves.

Rampage was performed by Campbell Lane in the English version, and by Nobuyuki Hiyama in Japan (Who gave him a Yakuza-style accent).

Rampage's figure was later repainted into the BotCon special figure Shokaract.

In the Beast Wars Metals Manga on Bonbon magnazine, Rampage was portrayed as a cannibalistic monster who attacked Optimus Primal, Airazor, and Rattrap when they investigated the vicinity of where his status pod was located. It was by luck, they managed to jetison him into space.

==== Rampage is the Japanese name for the Decepticon character .
