Encyclopedia : R : RA : RAS : Rasheed Ladoja
Rasheed Adewolu Ladoja (b. 25 September 1944) became governor of Oyo State in Nigeria on 29 May 2003. He is a member of the ruling People's Democratic Party (PDP).
On 12 January 2006, Ladoja was impeached by state legislators and is currently challenging his impeachment. His deputy, Christopher Adebayo Alao-Akala, was immediately sworn in as the new governor by the acting chief judge of the state who himself was removed from office by Ladoja thirty minutes earlier. The power play caused by Ladoja's fight with his political godfather Chief Adedibu often called the strongman of Ibadan politics is yet to fully play out. Senator Rasheed Ladoja's impeachment have stopped the development of the state. Cheif Adebayo Alao-Akala is a political stooge of Alhaji Lamidi Adedibu who is regarded as the god father of Ibadan politics have not done anything since about six months. Senator Ladoja gave hope to the people of the state, by reconstruction of roads, rehabilitation of roads, provision of portable water and encouragement to the farmers so that food will be in abundant in the state. It just quite unfortunate that he was not able to commission most of the projects he started.
