Rechargeable energy storage system

A rechargeable energy storage system or RESS is a system that stores energy for delivery of electric energy and which is rechargeable.

This term of art is used in US legislation related to hybrid vehicles, such as the U.S. Energy Policy Act of 2003, and also in ISO international standards on electric vehicles.
