Red Bird Records was a record label started by American pop music songwriters Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller.
After closing Spark Records, Leiber and Stoller started Red Bird in 1964. They brought in George Goldner, a veteran record promoter and former owner of Gee Records, Gone Records and Rama Records. The prolific Brill Building songwriting team of Jeff Barry and Ellie Greenwich also came aboard as composers/producers. Although Red Bird had over 20 US Top-100 hits, the label was closed in 1966 as its principals were more interested in writing and producing then in running a record label. Goldner's gambling problem was another reason so Leiber and Stoller sold the label to Goldner. Later, Shelby Singleton acquired the label and it was absorbed into his Plantation Records. The Shangri-Las' recording contract and catalog was sold in a separate deal to Mercury Records.
Among the artists who released records on Red Bird were The Dixie Cups ("Chapel of Love", "People Say"), The Shangri-Las ("Leader of the Pack", "Remember (Walkin' In the Sand)", "I Can Never Go Home Anymore"), The Tradewinds ("New York Is A Lonely Town"), and The Jelly Beans ("I Wanna Love Him So Bad").
A subsidiary label, Blue Cat Records released a hit record named "The Boy from New York City", recorded by The Ad Libs.
