Red Hot Chili Peppers (album)
Encyclopedia : R : RE : RED : Red Hot Chili Peppers (album)
Red Hot Chili Peppers is the Red Hot Chili Peppers' self-titled debut album, released in 1984, and produced by Gang of Four guitarist Andy Gill. It was a commercial flop upon release in 1984 and, on the whole, failed to attract the attention of rock critics. Even today, the debut remains perhaps the least-known album by the Red Hot Chili Peppers. It had two singles: True Men Don't Kill Coyotes and Get Up and Jump.
The live lineup of the band was not contractually allowed to record together. Guitarist Hillel Slovak and drummer Jack Irons were signed to MCA as part of a development deal with their other band What Is This?, while the RHCP were signed up to EMI. EMI ordered Anthony Kiedis and Flea to replace them; as a result, guitarist Jack Sherman and drummer Cliff Martinez joined the band for the session.
The album was re-issued in 2005 for the iTunes music store, including the full album and bonus tracks found in the re-issued version in 2003.
