Encyclopedia : R : RE : RED : Redwood Shores, California

Redwood Shores is a neighborhood on the San Francisco Peninsula in California. It is located on the eastern edge of Belmont but is actually part of incorporated Redwood City.

Redwood Shores was built up from landfill in the marshes of the San Francisco Bay in the 1960s, much like its neighbor on the north side, Foster City. To the south is the San Carlos small-plane airport.

Redwood Shores is mostly made up of suburban housing.

From the 1960s to 1980s it was the home of the Marine World - Africa USA park, but in 1986 the park moved to Vallejo, California (eventually becoming Six Flags Marine World), and the land occupied by the world headquarters of Oracle Corporation.

Redwood Shores is also the home to the headquarters of the Electronic Arts company.

In recent years, Redwood Shores has become an emerging center of private equity and venture capital. Large Singaporean investors GIC (Government of Singapore Investment Corporation), EDB (Economic Development Board), and TIF have their offices there, as do venture firms Gabriel Venture Partners, Rustic Canyon Partners, and Woodside Fund.
