Pre Show Entertainment
In 2003, The Regal 2wenty: Entertainment Ignited (also known simply as The Regal 2wenty), a programmed preview of upcoming film and video releases, was introduced in the United States. It replaced the pre-feature film slide show of advertisements and trivia set to various elevator music-like songs, It is somewhat reminiscent of the newsreels of the classic film era, except that it focuses completely on paid advertising; something newsreels did only a fraction of the time.In January of 2006, Regal Cinemas brought changes to the in-theatre preshow program. With the creation of the National Cinemedia Corporation, jointly owned by Regal Entertainment Group and AMC Theatres the 2wenty was transformed into Regal First Look (called the AMC First Look in AMC locations). The program focuses on original content that is made specifically for cinema or as a first release window for advertising and marketing content before it is released on television.
Programs and Business Practices
- Corporate Box Office: Regal's CBO sells "VIP Super Saver" and "PREMIUM Super Saver" discount tickets in the quantities of thousands to corporations for various uses. Companies may use these as rewards for their employees, or may re-sell them, as Costco Wholesale Corporation does. The main difference between VIP and PREMIUM tickets is that PREMIUM tickets can be used on "No Pass" attractions, while a $1.50 upgrade fee must be paid on the VIP ticket to do so. The New Jersey Department of Education gave PREMIUM Super Saver tickets out to students that participated in surveys.
- National CineMedia: National CineMedia, jointly owned by Regal Cinemas and AMC Theatres, orchestrates advertising by playing video ads in theatre lobbies as well as box-office handouts and posters. Common products advertised are NBC television or Web sites.
- Regal Crown Club: The Regal Crown Club is a free customer loyalty program. Members earn points based on how much they spend at box office and concession (typically 12 points per box office purchase, and 2 points per concession purchase). These points accrue and every 40 points members earn a free small popcorn, free small soda, or free movie ticket. The Regal Crown Club currently has over 4 million members.
