Registered medical practitioner
Encyclopedia : R : RE : REG : Registered medical practitioner
Registered medical practitioner is a designation that only a medically qualified person registered with the General Medical Council may claim in the United Kingdom. In contrast, "Doctor" can be used for people with other doctorate degrees, for example a Ph.D., so does not on its own indicate that someone is qualified to practise medicine. Indeed, many registered medical practitioners do not hold a doctoral-level qualification, so have "doctor" only as an honorary title.
