Renville County is a county located in the U.S. state of North Dakota. As of 2000, the population is 2,610. Its county seat is Mohall6.

Geography

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 2,310 km² (892 mi²). 2,266 km² (875 mi²) of it is land and 45 km² (17 mi²) of it (1.94%) is water.

Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there were 2,610 people, 1,085 households, and 748 families residing in the county. The population density was 1/km² (3/mi²). There were 1,413 housing units at an average density of 1/km² (2/mi²). The racial makeup of the county was 97.74% White, 0.23% Black or African American, 0.65% Native American, 0.46% Asian, 0.11% from other races, and 0.80% from two or more races. 0.73% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There were 1,085 households out of which 28.70% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 60.40% were married couples living together, 5.60% had a female householder with no husband present, and 31.00% were non-families. 28.50% of all households were made up of individuals and 14.70% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.35 and the average family size was 2.90.

In the county the population was spread out with 23.30% under the age of 18, 4.90% from 18 to 24, 24.40% from 25 to 44, 25.30% from 45 to 64, and 22.00% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 44 years. For every 100 females there were 100.30 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 101.70 males.

The median income for a household in the county was $30,746, and the median income for a family was $36,023. Males had a median income of $25,346 versus $16,700 for females. The per capita income for the county was $16,478. About 8.50% of families and 11.00% of the population were below the poverty line, including 14.10% of those under age 18 and 9.10% of those age 65 or over.

Law Enforcement

The Sheriff's Department of Renville County [lists] its duties as including "making arrests, enforcing all state and local laws, serving legal papers and handling mentally ill patients". Interestingly, it also discusses a contract with Bottineau County which makes the Sheriff responsible for transporting Renville County prisoners to the Bottineau County Jail, 60 miles from Mohall.
