Reuben Hersh

Reuben Hersh (December 9, 1927 - ) is an American mathematician, now an emeritus professor of the University of New Mexico. He is best known for his books on the philosophy of mathematics and its social impact. His book The Mathematical Experience, co-authored with Philip J. Davis, won the National Book Award in 1983.

He received his B.A. in English literature from Harvard University, and did his graduate work in mathematics at New York University (Ph.D., 1962; Advisor, P.D. Lax). He spent the bulk of his career at the University of New Mexico.

He is divorced and has two children, and resides in Albuquerque, NM.
