Encyclopedia : R : RH : RHA : Rhakotis
Rhakotis is the original name of the city of Alexandria before it was renamed by Alexander the Great. New evidence points that Alexander did not create the city of Alexandria but just renamed it, the city existed near 2 millennia before it was conquered. Alexandria was planned by Dinocrates, an experienced Greek city planner from Rhodes, and modled his new city after the helenistic styles of the greek world the plan was so large that it absorbed the already existing city of the time Rhakotis. The old city is now in the center of Alexandria renamed Kom-El-Dikka by present inhabitants.
