Rhondda was a local government district in Wales.

It was initially formed in the late 19th century, as an urban district in Glamorgan, under the name of Ystradyfodwg, and took its current name in 1897, after the River Rhondda. It was promoted to being a municipal borough in 1955 [link]. In 1974 it became a local government district in Mid Glamorgan, unchanged.

Since 1996 it has formed part of the Rhondda Cynon Taff county borough.
