Richard Preston (b. August 5, 1954) is a bestselling author, his books are based on thorough background research and inteviews and offer, though fiction, a lot of non-fictional facts. His brother Douglas Preston also became a best-selling author, together with his writing-partner Lincoln Child.
His best known book, The Hot Zone (1994), is a nonfiction bio-thriller about the Ebola virus. He came to know the ebola virus through many contacts including C.J Peters and Nancy Jaax. His facination began during a visit to Africa and people were dropping like flies.
Richard Preston's fictional novel "Cobra Event", dealing with the terroristic release of a fictional virus composed of various qualities of true diseases in New York, alarmed even former President Clinton. Although this book is fiction, it has all the facts, gruesome details, history, research and action both a scientist and a horror fan could desire in a bio-mystery thriller.
