Richard Sanders ( born August 23, 1940 in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania) is an American character actor. Sanders is best known for playing the quirky news anchorman Les Nessman on the television sitcom, WKRP in Cincinnati.
Sanders attended Carnegie Tech's (now known as Carnegie Mellon University) Fine Arts Department as an acting major from 1958 to 1962. He was a classmate of Rene Auberjonois, Ferris Buck, David Dozer, Walter Raines, Frank Parker, Alice Gauley, David Rotthoff, Aubrey Wilson, and Ron Satlof, among others.
After graduation, Sanders studied Shakespeare in England on a Fullbright Scholarship, and served a stint with the Peace Corps in Brazil.
In addition to being an actor, Sanders is a script writer, having written several episodes of WKRP in Cincinnati, among other writings.
